Point and shoot camera!

I heart my D70, of course I do, but I’m thinking a point& shoot might be a good addition to my life. I have the 5050, which I’ve loved for years, but now I feel like the D70 is an SUV, and the 5050 is a stationwagon, and I really need a SmartCar instead of a station wagon.  Any recommendations?

Under $250, pref under $200.
At least 5mp
Ability to record video with sound

Those are my big parameters, obviously I want it to be small, too.

  1. I have a sony cybershot. It was a gift so I don’t know how much Ted paid for it, but he got it online for less than in the store. I like it better than the nikon cool pix, it has a faster reaction time and the set up seems to be more intuitive. I actually like my OLD sony cyber shot (from 2001) better than my new one, but I gave the old one to my mom.

  2. The Canon Powershot SD600 is down to about $200 at BJ’s these days. I want to replace my SD110 (only 3.2 megapixels) and am trying to decide whether to get the 600 or one of the newer ones, which have gotten mixed sturdiness reviews. I love love love the size and functionality of the powershot. The newer ones are even smaller. I have taken more than 6500 photos with my SD110, including quite a few that rival my best shots with my Nikon 35mm SLR. It has a good macro setting and it’s easy to set up manual preferences so you don’t accidentally use the flash (ugh). Love.

  3. hey! I had to spend more time than I wanted to at Office Depot today, and while I was wandering around waiting for them to stop messing up my printshop order (how hard is it to scan something and put it on a CD? does it really take 30 minutes?) I saw that they have tons of cute little point and shoot digital cameras on sale for less than $200. I think they are in-store only specials, but you might want to check it out. There were a couple on the random sale table by the print shop area and there was a big sandwich board at the entrance advertising all their crazy deals. (OfficeDepot in the Old Navy strip mall on Stillwater.) Happy happened-already birthday!

  4. The Canon Powershot ELPHs are incredible…great macro feature, lots of pre-sets and manual mode, plus videos with sound. I have the 600…a friend of mine just got the 7.1 MP one for $225 online somewhere ( I think it is the 1000). She had the 400 before and couldn’t say enough good about it. They are fabulous.
