But I WANT CAKE!!!

Well, I was right at the cutoff for the GD test, 135, which means I have to do the fasting 3-hour next Monday.

I am also anemic, and need to start taking iron 2x a day. Any recommendations for a good iron pill that won’t ruin my digestive life?

I really wanted cake at my shower. That was my silver lining!!! FUCK FUCK FUCK.

  1. ferro-sequels with stool softener . . er, since you have that poop thing, you know? The only ones that didn’t make me burp bacon, and want to puke my guts out.Plus that extra iron can bung you up. . . .stool softener. They are a little expensive, but I tried all kinds, and this was the best.

  2. Have the cake! just don’t have it every single meal until you deliver. Nobody said don’t eat cake at your party, they just said don’t eat the WHOLE cake at your party.
And I second the stool softener vote. Do it- you won’t regret it. Good to have around post baby too.

  3. Yes! But it’s not a pill, it’s a syrup. Either Floradix or NatureWorks Herbal Iron. I prefer NatureWorks taste and consistency. But they’re both really easily assimilated, I had no issues (and I have IBS anyway). They definitely kick iron pill butt, check it.
    🙂

  4. The ingredient in iron pills that upsets your stomach is the iron. So a lot of the ones that supposedly upset your stomach less just have less iron in them. (Course if it’s upsetting your stomach, this isn’t a bad idea – take lower doses more times a day.) You might want to try just regular ol’ iron first and see if it actually makes you constipated, since some people can take iron supplements and have no trouble. (I’m one, lucky me!)

  5. I was supposed to have my GD test today too but they messed up the directions about not eating sweets. I had to reschedule it for Sat or I’d have failed miserably. *sighs* That sucks about the iron too. Don’t we have enough digestive issues without adding iron to make them worse?

  6. I flunked the one-hour GD test with a 135, and came through the 3-hour with clear results. The one-hour test just isn’t as reliable.
And I agree, eat the cake. You haven’t been diagnosed yet.

  7. Re iron tablets. I had to take them too. The one I used were called ferro-grad (probably doesn’t apply to you) and they had added vitamin C in them. Apparently that aids in things not getting stopped up. Make sure your doc tells you how much iron you need to take. I had to take two tablets a day but every time I bought them the pharmacist would tell me to only take one a day. Oh, and a good point to remember is that it changes the colour of things. To black.
