Top 10

Which ten of my photos (check out the Snappity & NYC 2005 albums) would you choose to display in a gallery-like setting?  (If you have time for ten, great, if you only want to name one, great too.)

Long version behind the cut.

So, some people From Away are trying to get a little cultcha’ into a storefront near my parents’ studio by selling books and creating a gallery-like space, and they asked if they knew of any photogs that they could display, and my parents suggested me.  It’s sort of nepotistic, but whatever, it’s a good opportunity to get some enlargements done, and since the overhead for printing & framing is low (cough, free, cough) what the hell, eh?  But I can’t decide which pictures should go up. I have MY favorites, but that’s just me.  I’d like to know what the public thinks before I choose any.

The idea is to display enlargements (prob 11×14 or 16×20) and then package up some cards to sell at their (the From Aways) store.  Might make a little pocket money, you know?  I’ll leave this at the top of the page for a few days, anyway.  Feel free to comment or email at snappityATgmail.com

  1. Sounds like a great opportunity Gretchen, you take beautiful photos. I really enjoyed your NYC 2005 folder. Here are my 10 picks, in no order:
    Spiderweb
    Bangor Public Library
    Wildflowers
    Peony
    Tiny White
    Daisy
    24. Rock Center
    33. 3rd Avenue in Motion
    Lions
having trouble picking number 10, but I think I’ll go w/ Met Entrance (debating between 3 or 4 in your NYC folder… They’re all great!)
    Good Luck with the exhibit.

  2. Sounds like great exposure, here are my faves:
    Close up of standpipe
    Dad @ Crumple
    Spiderweb
    Widemouth
    Peony
    Lily 3
    Wall @ Toys R Us
    Ball Poppers
    Laundromat
    Tomatoes
I’d be interested in a trade too!

  3. Gretchen, your pics are awesome!
The ones that grabbed me at first glance were:
Standpipe (the image of almost the whole pipe)
    Crumple Island
    Widemouth jar w/stems
    Poppy 1
    Lily 3
    Met (with “Photo” in it)
    Lollies II
    Rock center (hand shot)
    Rock center (waterfall shot)
    Crumbs III (& coffee)
However, I don’t think there’s much of a theme to my choices, so you might want to go with a theme – like flowers, or colours, or buildings (okay, these are simplistic themes, but you know what I mean).
Also, you might want to check out what kinds of photo cards are already available, and pick pictures of yours that are different.
That’s probably enough unrequested advice from a non-photographer…

  4. Lovely!
Here are my pics, in no particular order:
    – Bangor Public Library
    – Standpipe (both)
    – Waterworks
    – Spider

    – Star
    Great stuff!

  5. Not that I am partial, but I really love your pic of the star (1).
The hand from rock center is amazing, too (2).
    And from there:
    3 Standpipe
    4 Lollies II
    5 All Washed Up
    6 Water at Rock Center
7&8 I like the idea of “wall at TRU” and “Display at TRU” being displayed in one frame
    9 Met Entrance
    10 Dad on Crumple

  6. I like:
    waterworks
    widemouth jar
    laundromat
    tomatoes
    flowers
I really like your photos, Gretchen, I never noticed those links before.
