Ahh yes. 30.
Last night, Amy came up and joined Andy and I for a night on the town. We started at Carolina’s, a bar that a friend works at, and ventured to karma, the new gay bar in town. It was great fun, Amy and I worked the Jello shot boy for Andy (only to find out this morning that he’s ‘straight’, umm, okay…. good luck with that) and I had two, count ’em TWO! Vodka Collins which got me nicely giggly, but wore off enough for me to drive to Dysart’s by 2 am for fries and gravy and strawberry shortcake.
This morning came way too soon, with a phone call from Kate at 8:30, and a lunch appointment at 11 am. My folks took dave and I, and Amy and Andy, out to lunch at the Muddy Rudder. Very nice, when we got there, my parents had managed to be allowed in to set up the table with goodiebags for the other newly, or almost 30 year olds, and a balloon, and some gifts for me. it was very nice.
However. Vodka Collins, 12 hours later, does not make one very ‘hungry.’ Oy. I was NOT feeling well, despite shoving rolls in my face and drinking water and eating a handful of TUMS. I barely picked at my Cobb Salad, and by the time the cake arrived (which is a GREAT cake, from Frank’s, a local legend of a bakery, and where we got our wedding cake) I was sucking back peppermint tea and watching everyone else eat.
It was really lovely though, and I told my mom that if it had been even an hour later, i would have been fine. As it was, once the GI distress was over (exaggerated, I’m sure, by the onset of my period, yay!) I was FINE. I came home and napped for about an hour, and then got on my swimsuit and went to Andy’s parents’ house to go swimming. Came back and THEN had some cake (Oh, delicious chocolate cake!) and finished uploading my NYC pics. My iBook is being wonky, though, and telling me I have far less space than I should (which is not right, since I just cleaned a WHOLLLE bunch of shit off of here) so it took a while to get everything going. ANYWAY. NYC pics are all uploaded, check them out!
For my birthday, Dave got me a CD player installed in my Outback, so YAY, and listening to the Ave Q soundtrack while driving to the gay bar was really nice. LOVE the soundtrack. Amy made me two mix CDs, which showed us that my supa-dupa CD player also lists the artist and title of each song, which is just realllly cool, and the CDs are great too. I’m still working on the tag that emmalola hit me with (which, tomorrow! Lola!) and these CDs will surely help. My folks gave me money, and a goodie bag with shampoo, and AGAIN, scented body wash that I can’t use. It’s really almost a joke now, when I pull it out and say "ECZEMA, mom, remember?" I don’t know, I’ll give it a try, I guess, and leave it for guests. Like my mom. Also a candleholder and a photo album, and caveat that the money is ONLY to be used for furniture. Not bills, or windows, but furniture. With my grandmother’s money, I’m hoping I can find a damn dresser already. I checked out Overstock.com, but am so unsure of ordering sight unseen, so if anyone has any opinions on that (my sister loves the O) I’m game.
Anyway. I’m 30. This is so totally my year. I can’t help but think that starting my first post-miscarriage period, which signals the beginning of my first post-miscarriage TTC cycle, on my BIRTHDAY, is you know, a sign. 30 is my year! 🙂
Gretchen, I just started coming here recently, as a regular, I mean. I want to wish you a really, really happy birthday, and to say that I do hope 30 is your year. All the best.
