Geeky stuff

Three years ago, TypePad was my shangri-la of internet services, as you are well aware. But now, I’m thinking there is probably a better way… WordPress wasn’t around when I started with Typepad, for instance, and I really like that as a free service… and flickr wasn’t nearly as rich as it is now. So, in setting up my moblog thing, and playing around, I can’t help but think there is a better way to do all this.

First, can one export their Typepad albums to Flickr? I’ve googled the hell out of it, and can’t find an answer, so it’s probably not easy, but is it impossible?

Here’s what I need, now.

Public family blog (currently here, under the default URL) Private, but not necessarily passworded, blog (like the one you’re reading now) Moblog (at Livejournal, works for me as-is, because I have to have an LJ account anyway to read friends’ posts.)

And it would be nice to connect my photos to all three. I’ve been doing TypePad albums, reducing the image sizes because of family members with dialup/WebTV, but flickr’s default view shouldn’t affect that, right? I don’t mind paying for premium services, but I don’t want to pay for EVERY premium service at every site. 😉

Ideas?

  1. I have started my bitch n’ piss blog back at livejournal again because it can be passworded. Also because I want to be able to use my typepad frogger to post non-kid stuff, maybe links to pictures as I try to get this whole photography thing off the ground. I really like flickr. I have found no way to transfer my typepad photo albums to flickr, I have just uploaded all the photos again (which was actually okay since I needed to go through all my CDs and do some organizing).
My complaints on flickr are as follows:
    1. it’s difficult to see what the public sees without logging out, which frustrates me.
    2. the only way to arrange pictures in your main photo stream (which is what is vistors see first unless they go into any sets or collections) is “most recently uploaded.” Which is great if you manage to do stuff in chronological order.
    3. sometimes it clogs the cache/temp memory
    4. you can’t “invite” someone to see a set or collection without giving them access to all the photos in that set/collection both public and private. Yes you can get around this by sending a link to the set, but it would be nice to just send it from flickr.
    5. There’s no place to have private notes about public pictures.
    6. I still have not been able to get “blog this picture” to work with typepad. It’s not clear if this is typepad’s issue or flickr’s.
