I love my hardwood floors. LOVE THEM. For so many reasons, my allergies, no cat hair, etc, but the time has come for us to procure some type of… rug. ANd good goddamn, but I cannot find one I like. I mean, I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I don’t want an ugly rug that is also scratchy and thin! And chhhheeeeerist, even the ugly/scratchy/thin ones are 60 bucks at Target! Sigh.
I have expensive taste. For instance, I LOVE this rug by Momeni, or this one, or this one… and, embarrassingly enough, there are lots that I like in this line (whose name I cannot type, but I joked that the reason why I was drawn to it was that we both wanted to be able to hide puke stains), but alas, out of my budget. Maybe slightly more IN my budget is this one at Overstock, or this one, but then, I have no idea how plush or non-plush it is, or scratchy, or whatever. I’ve checked target, Marden’s, TJMaxx, Kohl’s, Home Depot, etc… and it’s all basically sucky, or 400 bucks for a 5×8 rug. Sigh. Anyone have any other tips?
It isn’t that expensive to get a piece of rug bound on the edges… maybe you can find a nice carpet you like and just buy the chunk you need and have it sewn up. Don’t know if that’s a whole lot cheaper but might give you more options in your range.
And if you can find a remnant you like instead of getting it cut to measure it should be even less.
No hints, except do NOT google Dash & Albert, rug makers extraordinaire. Don’t do it. DON’T DO IT.
Ikea? I got a really pretty multi colored rug that is pretty plush for not that much 🙂 Pretty vague description…i know, sorry.
marden’s??
do you think mk and a DESIGNED those rugs? I thnk not. but yes, so pretty 🙂
I would try Kohl’s and Ikea….
Crowjoy is right about carpet remnants. And I was going to suggest Ikea, too. They have some carpets available online, though at some point maybe you could take a voyage down to Boston and buy all sorts of awesome stuff. But this is reasonable ($79) and all wool, and each color has a different pattern, all mellow and geometric. I want the dark red one for my office.

Oh, and I know that Ikea rug is much plainer than the fun ones you posted, but I thought maybe the squares and things would suffice. The dot rug I found was still $299, but for other stuff I get the feeling http://www.cb2.com would be right up your alley. (Crate & Barrel’s younger brother.) You might also watch the C&B outlet (rug page is here: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/rugs/outlet/v )–many are still super spendy, but this one, for instance, is now quite cheap: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=4100&f=11293&viewall=1
