Registering

I feel like it’s the weeks before school starts, as I’ve spent the day signing up for stuff.  Thanks for all the CBE advice, I ended up registering today for four weeks of Sunday night classes, plus a Tuesday breastfeeding class and a thursday newborn care class, all of which start in March. CRAZY to think that calling TODAY means that I take this stuff in MARCH.  I’ll be over 35 weeks when we finish.

The points about it being good for Dave were well taken.  I have experience with newborns and babies, and lord knows I’ve listened to/read tons on the birth and breastfeeding process. I think it will be good for him to have that info, so that I don’t get pissy about having to be "the expert," you know? So that’s cool.

I also signed up at the Y for a membership, and with said membership, the prenatal classes.  I’m really stoked about that one. For one, I don’t need to wait til the next session (yee to the haw!) and can start right away. Like, TOMORROW. I can’t wait.  For two, they also have a prenatal yoga class for members, which isn’t mentioned online, so I can do both yoga and aqua classes.  I was hedging on taking regular yoga — the instructor modifies it for pregnant women as she leads it — because it’s an extra 70 bucks per session, not included in the membership fees. Prenatal makes a lot more sense to me, financially and otherwise. I love the regular yoga instructor, and she doesn’t do prenatal, but that’s okay.

I registered and got a card and all of that. It’s changed since I last had a card, all computerized and stuff. Plus, the YM and YW merged last year to create The Y, with an all-inclusive membership fee (38.50/month) and access to both facilities.  On the registration form, they ask how you’ve heard about the Y, and I checked other and under "please explain" I wrote "City resident. Hard to miss."  Which totally cracked up the girl getting my info.  I got the official tour, and ohhhh, the pool looked nice. So inviting. I’m really excited.

I mean, I have weirdass Y/gym anxieties, but this time, it’s totally different.  I’m in the unique group of Y members who are actively planning on getting BIGGER over the next few months.  I’m also hoping to use that to get comfortable with the whole Y experience, so that postpartum, I can take care of some of their mother-baby classes, and eventually use it and the babysitting nursery they offer to work on my own physical fitness. I’m such a non-athlete, and I don’t strive to be an athlete so much, but I also don’t want to end up like my MIL, who is very unhealthy because of her lifestyle.  I also think having a Y in town is such a great thing, we didn’t have anything like that growing up, and I’d love for my kids to be active members as well, at the very least, learning to swim there.  I am a lake-learned swimmer, which means I have zero form, but can stay alive for a while in deep water, and propel myself from one place to another.  I think it would be great if the widget had a more formal education, swimming wise. Plus, they have lots of other programs for kids.

Anyway, I’m a Y member! And I start an aqua class tomorrow, in the WARM pool. EEEE!!!
