Good Stuff

The furniture repairman was only here for five minutes, tops.  The drawer just had to be yanked out and replaced correctly, which made me feel a little foolish for having them come, until it ended up being that it was in there so crooked, I had to hold the dresser while he really yanked.  Nothing was bent, broken or warped though, and now it glides in and out just as easily as the others.

I really love my furniture.  it took a few hours to adjust, just to the difference in the room.  Since we repainted, we haven’t had ANYTHING in there but a utility table with the tv and antenna, and our phone.  Just to adjust to having any furniture took a few minutes. But, holy cow, I could LIVE in this dresser. You could come visit and we’d have our privacy, it’s THAT huge.  I can’t believe how much it holds, which was my number one reason for getting furniture.  It has nine drawers. NINE!  A giant sock drawer, for the communal socks, and then four smaller drawers that hold — with room to spare in each! — Dave’s underthings, my underthings, my bras & such, and my socks that dave doesn’t use.  I fit everything, I am not kidding, from my old dresser into one drawer. ONE.  My old dresser only held shirts.  I split the contents into two drawers — one for long sleeved shirts, and one for t-shirts and pajama type things.  In the bottom drawers, I put all of my jeans and pants into one, and sweatshirts and such into the other. And every. single. drawer. has room to grow.  AND! My clothes don’t live in a pile on the closet floor anymore!  Dave hasn’t even put his clothes into his piece yet, but it will all fit.  (Dave’s also a hanger-upper, from years of having no dresser at ALL, so he doesn’t require the space that I do.)  The tv ended up IN the cabinet, and even dave agrees that it looks nicer that way.  Partly because we use an antenna that dates back to the 70s (but it’s a GREAT antenna for us non-cable people) complete with giant ears and two dials mounted on a woodgrain base.  Before, it tended to dominate too much of the room. Now, I’ve put it behind the tv chest, which is angled in the corner so that we still get our five channels, but the antenna is INVISIBLE. God, just to have THAT gone makes me sooo happy.

We also moved our networking devices into the bedroom, since Dave has given up on the PC ever visiting the land of the internet again, and that negates the need to have 50 miles of phone cable running through the hall.  Plus, we will remember to turn it off at night when we see it blinking, which should save us some on the electric bill.  All that’s left is to make the damn curtains, already.  I’ll post pics, but I’m really waiting for the new iBook to do that, since it will be a good test run of all my new stuff.

SPEAKING of iBooks, I realized while talking to kb today that this will be my first BRAND NEW computer since 1993.  I got a Compaq 386 laptop for my hs graduation, from my grandparents, and that was the last time I had a NEW computer.  I got a Toshiba satellite from my folks a few years after that (97? 98? I was living on Court street, so it was after 96, anyway), and then Dave bought his sister’s old desktop for me, which I used until we moved in together and we cannibalized it and added parts to HIS desktop.  He built a PC when we first moved in together, in 01, and then he bought me this iBook from a friend who was going into the Army in… 02, I believe. So, in the hostory of my computing, I’ve not had a Brand New All Mine Computer since 1993. TWELVE YEARS. SO. EXCITED!

Also exciting, the university has increased GA stipends, effective immediately, from 9k to 11k. A raise! Before I’ve even started!

And finally, I dug up my blender and made myself the best smoothie ever just now. Frozen mixed berries, banana, vanilla yogurt and OJ. YUM.
