I must say, a real benefit to teaching are those 5 am phone calls to let you know that you don’t have to go to work, but you will get paid. I tossed and turned all night, dreaming that there was no snow day, and that i was really pissed to have my spontaneous 4-day weekend interrupted with, gasp!, my job. The last two snow days, I was called at 4:54 and 5:05, respectively, and I was awake at 5, just waiting. Hoping. 5 came and went, 5:05, 5:15, and I resigned myself to being pissed off and at work. 5:17: RRRIIIINNGGG! Yippeee!!
Because of my insanely positive OPK the day before, Dave and I spent some time researching and discussing what timing we should use. Some sites said every day, some said every other, so we split the difference and decided to go for every 36 hours. Don’t call tomorrow night.
He got up and went to work, and I totally chilled out at home. I mean, totally. I went out and shoveled a path from the house to the street, but the first 12 -14 inches was heavy snow. And, there is so much that throwing it onto the existing banks causes mini-avalanches, and some ends up right back where it started. For a storm that was supposed to start midday yesterday, and end by noon today, we ended up having more than 36 hours straight of snow.
While I was in the shower, my neighbor came over and snowblowed the empty part of the drive, and the end where the plows pile it up. He’s done that every storm, and it’s so nice. I’m baking him cookies right now, which I will take over in the morning. I also took some pictures, which I hope to upload tomorrow as well.
Dave came home a little early, and we drove down to the Brooks on the corner. I love our Subaru. We spent the whole drive there loving our Subaru, and loving our house and it’s location. We tried to remember what it was like living ten miles from town and trying to get up those steep hills, the last of which we lived on top of. Damn. I love our house, our neighborhood, and our car. All good things.
Tomorrow we will shovel out, the snow is supposed to stop soon, and the last foot or so has been the fluffy stuff, so easier to maneuver. We’ll take the cookies next door, have hot showers, a good lunch, and maybe run some errands. Life is good. Maybe this will be the month.
I’m so glad that I didn’t come to visit this weekend!
You do realize, though, that the picture you are painting of your life is incredibly, wonderfully gooey shmooey. I hope you don’t mind, because gooey shmooey is really your color.
Love, AMOS
ps If you were a color today, which would it be?
(perhaps it’s crayons we need to be creating?)
Man, I’ve been teaching for six years and not once have I had a snow day! Ok, true, I live in Texas…
